Volunteers
Support
to Campaign for HIV and AIDS Awareness
New
Delhi, 6 November:
Muna Oda Thapa, 4-year
old daughter of International UNV Volunteer, Yoko Oda, was
the Youngest Volunteer during an event “STOP AIDS: Keep
the Promise” held at Dilli Haat, New Delhi, on December 2,
2006, India.
Muna greeted over 200 visitors who came to Dilli Haat, and
gave them the red ribbon which symbolizes solidarity for
people living with HIV and AIDS globally. It also unites
all people in the fight against HIV and AIDS. Thanks to
Muna’s efforts, a large number of visitors wore the ribbon
to show their solidarity on the occasion. Additionally,
the ribbons attached to white and blue balloons which
celebrate the International Volunteer Day were given to
children who came to Dilli Haat.
Dilli Haat is an outdoor
market which offers handicrafts, food and cultural
activities of states across India.
The event was voluntarily
organized by the staff members of the UN agencies and the
World Bank in India to promote greater understanding on
HIV and AIDS. The UNV India Country Office came out in
full support of the event.
Message from the Secretary-General of the United Nations:
Each day, millions of
volunteers make a statement that despite everything –
despite poverty and hatred, despite apathy and the seeming
intractability of some of the challenges we fact – people
can change the world for the better.
